The A6 Oranga Ngākau Karakia card set will make the perfect addition to your home, classroom, therapeutic or office space. They are designed to bring Te Reo Māori and karakia into your everyday lives. They are discrete and light weight allowing for them to be put in bag, or sit on your coffee table, shelf, or desk. 

The pack includes a set of 20 Karakia cards. Each card has an English translation included on the reverse, and just requires you to flip the card over to read.

What are Karakia?
Karakia are Māori incantations, chants, or prayers, used to invoke spiritual guidance and protection. Karakia are a powerful and important practice to enhance one’s life as serve many purposes. From seeking comfort, giving thanks, opening, or closing a space right through to removing mamae to providing inspiration, strength and so much more. 

This taonga is suitable for individuals, whanau or practitioners who wish to 
- Whakapiki their hauora (uplift wellbeing)
- Increase their use and confidence of Te Reo Māori and tikanga practices

5  karakia mo te kai - karakia to give thanks and acknowledgment for kai (food)

3  karakia whakakapi -  for closing a space whether it be your day, hui or therapeutic space.

2  karakia Timatanga/whakakapi and 1 x Karakia hei timata/whakakapi kaupapa that can be used for both opening or closing a space.

1   Karakia mo te haerenga – a karakia seeking protection when travelling

1  He karakia whakaawe – a karakia for inspiration. 

1  Karakia moe te whanau – a karakia to bring whanau together with knowledge, courage and strength  

1   Karakia mo nga mahi o te ra – a karakia that can be used for infusing your activities from mahi toi (art) to any experience. 

These karakia take a traditional approach to the ritual of karakia and have no specific faith or religion. They were translated and checked by Lois McIver; however it is important to recognize there are not always exact matches or appropriate English words to fully capture the essence of our Māori kupu. These translations invite a reader to explore and acknowledge the overall meanings of the karakia.
