Description
Aho (noun) the thread of our whakapapa (genealogy); the weft of fine fibre weaving.
Aho (verb) to shine; radiant light.
Our Aho design is a reflection of a shared link to the elaborate tapestry woven by our tūpuna. This tapestry referring to the varied whakapapa and expertise accumulated over centuries leading back to ancestral homelands. Design elements are inspired by the wayfinding expertise of our tūpuna who were guided by ngā tohu o te taiao (the signs that surround us).
Featured in this design are two navigation tools vital to the success of ancestral voyages across vast oceans. They speak to a deep understanding and skilful observations and serve as reminders of the journey and path we follow in their footsteps. The manu (bird) symbol refers to the tohu (signs) observed to indicate land location a.k.a a solid foundation to call home. Particularly, migratory birds or seabirds that feed at sea during the day and head back to land at nightfall to rest. The ‘x’ or whetū (stars) are interpreted in this collection as markers to indicate speed, direction and forward movement toward outcomes or potential.
A piece from the Aho Collection is a perfect gift for someone embarking on a journey. A taonga to be worn as reminder of individual and collective strength and resilience.
