Inspired by the act of setting a hīnaki and bringing kai home to loved ones, this taonga honours the deep connection between wai, sustenance and aroha. Kai is more than nourishment >> it is care, presence, and love made tangible.
Like catching tuna, aroha asks for patience and intention. It cannot be forced or owed; when it arrives, it is a gift.
This piece acknowledges the waterways that continue to sustain us - drawing a parallel between the flow of wai and the flow of aroha carried through manaakitanga - as gifts to nurture and protect for future generations.

Note: PVD coating can be up to 10 times stronger than regular gold or silver plating, and is highly resistant to tarnishing and scratching. The result = far more resistance to wear.
