Description
Inspired by the nine stars of Matariki, this artwork represents the gathering of people through shared knowledge and connection.
At its centre, the Niho Taniwha diamond represents the passing of mātauranga, pūrākau, and whakapapa across generations, honouring teachers, storytellers, and knowledge holders.
Surrounding it, clusters of Purapura Whetū symbolise the many people who come together, each bringing their own experiences and stories to create a vibrant community. These form the eight surrounding stars, with the central diamond representing Matariki, completing the reference to the nine stars. The diamond motif also reflects Waharua, a place of collaboration, learning, and transformation.
