The pattern acknowledges the moon phase Takirau - a night during the fuller part of the moon. The word Takirau can mean "shared by many" or "for the multitude," reflecting the collective and abundant energy of this time.
It’s considered a powerful and prosperous phase, good for fishing, planting, and gathering kai. Activities that rely on natural abundance.
During this time there was a particular variety of kumara harvested. These kumara were like the tea and biscuits for our tupuna. They were small and simple to prepare for guests as a sign of hospitality and abundance.
