Artist's Intepretation
The Kaokao pattern represents strength, protection and unity. It was seen to depict the stance that warriors made when doing the haka, the rib cage which protects the vital organs and the shape of the armpit when you embrace someone. This pattern is a reminder that even when you feel like things are hard, seek support and know that you are protected and guided by those who love you.
The Tūmatakahuki stitch represents the binding together of both our physical and spiritual world. Allowing us the comfort of knowing that although our loved ones by not be with us physically, we carry them with us in spirit.
